to gather is to...
///collect, curate, pause /// to see, wonder, find /// to process, create, and bring together ///
/// Kimmy Tolbert is the artist behind gather handwoven, a line of fiber artworks inspired by the continual juxtaposition of natural forms and structural geometry that echo the complexity of place. With a background in mixed media, photography, and printmaking, her artwork typically has a strong textural presence and fluid quality. She completed her thesis at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago entitled "Negotiating Spaces: Place-Based Mapping as Catalyst for Meaningful Engagement", which used cartography as a starting point for art making and critical thinking with students. Her weavings map neighborhood walks and a variety of places both past and present.
Kimmy lives and works as an art educator in Chicago, IL. She is currently accepting custom commissions and welcomes collaborative learning opportunities.
